Kader is a project dedicated to developing research-based screenwriting grounded in the social sciences and humanities — through an original training curriculum, specialised dramatic writing workshops, and in-person and virtual events that bring together researchers, writers, directors, producers, and entertainment industry professionals.
Our Partners
From Research to Screen
The project emerged at the intersection of two increasingly urgent needs in the contemporary cultural and visual landscape: the film and television industry's need for new scripts grounded in deep knowledge, and the need for research in the social sciences and humanities to find broader pathways for reach and impact. At this crossroads, Kader works to transform research knowledge into screenplay projects ready for development and production — opening rich narrative sources for the industry that spring from reality and engage with its questions and transformations.
A New Life for Research
The project aims to build a shared space between research and drama, where academic studies become raw material for stories, characters, and narrative worlds. Through this path, research gains new life beyond its specialised domain, while screenwriters find intellectual tools that enable them to produce work of greater depth and richness.
Knowledge in Story Form
Kader approaches narrative as a means of conveying knowledge and expanding its reach. It is concerned with reworking ideas and research findings into dramatic forms capable of embracing their complexity, while preserving their artistic appeal and their ability to reach a wide audience. Pleasure thus becomes part of the process of producing and sharing knowledge, and the screen becomes a space where imagination meets research, and story meets a deeper understanding of the world.
Our Areas of Work
Kader works through a set of integrated pathways that include developing curricula and training guides in research-based screenwriting, organising training and writing workshops, supporting the development of dramatic projects, and building a space for dialogue and exchange among researchers, screenwriters, and film and television makers.
Research as a Source of Creativity
Kader seeks to help establish a new tradition in Arabic dramatic writing — one that makes research a source of creativity, and narrative a space for sharing knowledge and rediscovering reality.
Our Mission
Kader seeks to build a vibrant space of interaction between knowledge in the social sciences and humanities and film and television drama. It aims to help shape a promising, discerning Arabic drama in which knowledge is tested in the public sphere and becomes part of people's lived experience and everyday questions — as well as a realm of entertainment.
Pathways
Kader believes that the absence of a creative mediator who translates vivid stories reflecting human reality is one of the gaps that must be bridged between knowledge and creativity — and works on the following pathways:
Critical engagement with research in the social sciences and humanities, and drawing out its dramatic potential.
Empowering a new generation of film and television screenwriters through our training and production workshops.
Transforming research in the social sciences and humanities into dramatic and cinematic scripts that preserve academic depth and specialisation within entertaining narratives capable of reaching a wide, diverse audience.
Crafting compelling, inspiring narratives capable of reaching a wide, diverse audience.
Establishing partnerships with research institutions to disseminate academic knowledge through new media that reach a broader audience.
Building collaborations with cultural and production institutions in entertainment, drama, and film to achieve the project's goals and bring scripts to the screen.
