Abdullah Al-Asil
Producer, director, and writerAbdullah Al-Asil is a Syrian producer, director, and writer based in Los Angeles, where he has lived for over ten years. He began his filmmaking career in Damascus at the age of twenty, when his first film was screened at Al-Kindi Cinema and was nominated for Best Short Film at the Damascus International Film Festival in its final edition.
After leaving Syria in 2011, he continued working in the film industry, participating in both independent and commercial projects in Hollywood and beyond. His short films have been screened across Europe, the United States, and Asia, with one of them also broadcast on television, earning awards at various festivals and competitions.
Al-Asil’s work focuses on deeply human moments and existential questions. Through the Global Media Makers program by Film Independent, he served as a coordinator for directing and documentary courses and as a production supervisor for a directing workshop. He has also worked on short films in collaboration with students and graduates of film programs at AFI, UCLA, and USC, in addition to serving as a creative consultant on narrative and documentary projects.
He is currently developing his new feature film project, along with other projects in writing, production, and creative consulting.
