Alaa Azmi

Writer and researcher

Alaa Azmi is an Egyptian journalist, translator, drama researcher (film researcher), and screenwriter. He was born in Cairo in 1982. He holds a BA in German Literature and Education (2003), as well as a specialized diploma in linguistics from the Goethe Institute in Berlin (2003/2004).

In the field of drama research, he has contributed research, informational support, and academic material to several major Egyptian productions, including Batelou’ Al-Rouh (2022), Risalat Al-Imam (2013), Silat Rahim (2024), Montaha Al-Salahiya and Qalbi wa Miftaho (2025), Sohab Al-Ard and Ra’s Al-Af’aa (2026), and the film Asad (2026).

He also worked as a Head Writer on the series Bibo (2026), and contributed to screenplay development for Silat Rahim and Montaha Al-Salahiya. He has been working at the prestigious Egyptian newspaper Akhbar El-Yom since January 2004, producing hundreds of investigative reports, field investigations, and journalistic stories focused on jihadist groups, political Islam, terrorism, and international relations.

He translated into Arabic the German book Anton Chekhov: A Life in Pictures (2005), and authored the book Religion, Sex, and Politics in Football (2014).
