Ziad Adwan
Writer and directorZiad Adwan is a writer, director, and theatre trainer who holds a PhD in Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London (2008). His doctoral research focused on “Errors in Cultural Performances.” While pursuing his PhD, he began developing his creative practice as an actor, writer, and director, producing a range of theatrical and artistic works grounded in his academic research.
Adwan has worked across Europe and the Arab Mashreq as a director, educator, and supervisor of acting and writing, while also writing for television and cinema. He served as an acting coach and script supervisor at the Creative Lab of Twofour54 in Abu Dhabi. He later continued his work as an acting trainer and script consultant on numerous theatre, television, and film projects throughout the Arab world and Europe.
Between 2015 and 2022, he was a researcher at the University of Munich, contributing to the projects Global Theatre Histories and Theatre in Transformation. His academic work has been published in both Arabic and English.
Adwan co-founded Tanween for Performing Arts and has worked on a wide range of dramatic, movement-based, digital, and interactive theatre projects. He has served as artistic director for several cultural initiatives in collaboration with institutions in Germany, Greece, and Syria, and regularly conducts workshops in acting and writing. He is also a board member of Mamdouh Adwan Publishing House, Al-Sharea for Media Foundation, and the academic journal Turba.
